Finding the stories inside living things. From giant Sperm Whales to microscopic bacteria, with our own bodies in between. An investigation between the P6’s of Gullane Primary School and members of Gullane Day Centre.
Since the beginning of the year, two artists Ben Winger and Yvonne Buskie have been working in the Primary School and the Day Centre in Gullane. The P6 class were studying everything to do with the body and from this inspiration, an adventurous creative journey has emerged.
Starting with a beach dig and the discovery of many objects that were hidden in the body of a sperm whale, the pupils and the elders have created stories and model boxes, built a cabinet filled with the stomach of a whale and the treasure within and most importantly talked, laughed, sung and played together.
Culminating in an event at the school on 8 March 2023, this project has built new connections and friendships and proved the power of creativity and imagination.
