Collaborating with Noren Haq

Blog by Gill Robertson, Artistic Director of Catherine Wheels.

I am delighted to announce that Noren Haq will be the artist working with us on our schools project which allows us to explore Islam with a P6 class. Noren is a writer and educator and is passionate about offering children creative and inspiring experiences.

From Noren:

“There is a magical quality to any learning environment that allows children to explore the natural path of their curiosity and follow where it leads. As a writer and teacher, I was instantly drawn to this project as I feel that giving children the freedom to be creative, in a fun and collaborative way is vital to produce any type of meaningful learning. To be part of a project that values authenticity is a joyful thing and I feel privileged to be able to share the beauty of Islam, which is an integral part of my life, with those I will be working with. I am extremely excited to be a part of this adventure and look forward to building a vibrant and memorable experience for all involved.”

The project begins after the Easter school break and I look forward to working with Noren, the visual artist Yvonne Buskie, and the teacher and pupils of East Linton Primary. The artists will be working closely with the teacher in co-creating a programme of inspiring art that stimulates, educates and allows a greater understanding of Islam.

On a final note I would like to thank all the fantastic artists who applied for the post. Your generosity, passion and knowledge has been inspiring and has helped me have a better understanding of what it means to be Muslim in Scotland.
