Catherine Wheels at Edinburgh International Children’s Festival 2026

We’re delighted to announce that Catherine Wheels will be presenting three shows at this year’s Edinburgh International Children’s Festival.

The Unlikely Friendship of Feather Boy and Tentacle Girl, For ages 8+, by Vee Smith and Sadiq Ali, will take to the air at Assembly Roxy on 31 May - 7 June. This breathtaking aerial show celebrates the transformative power of friendship, as two outsiders discover their inner strength and learn to fly together. Produced by Catherine Wheels, commissioned by Imaginate, created in association with National Theatre of Scotland and supported by Assembly. Supported by the Scottish Government’s Festivals Expo Fund, with development funding from Creative Scotland.

Making its UK premiere is In Time, created by Teater Refleksion, Andy Manley and De Røde Heste. Co-produced with Catherine Wheels in collaboration with Randers Teater, this heartwarming show about two men caring for a tiny seed uses gentle humour and visual storytelling to capture the universal joys and frustrations of nurturing new life. It runs at the Traverse Theatre from 1-4 June for younger audiences (ages 2-4).

Completing the trio is the award-winning Lightning Ridge (ages 8+), fresh from its Scottish tour. This show about the possibility of dreams and a community coming together, will be performed on 4 & 5 June, exclusively for pupils at Granton Primary School and festival delegates.

Tony Reekie, Executive Director:
Catherine Wheels are thrilled to be at the Festival with three very different productions and thank all the people and practitioners we’ve worked with for making them the special shows they are. We’re also delighted to be part of such a strong Scottish presence at the Festival, celebrating the rich and varied work being made in our country.
