Applications for Make Space 2026 are open!

Make Space is an artist development programme by Catherine Wheels which offers funding for artists to explore what work for young audiences might look like. The programme started in 2020 during the Covid pandemic with a second round in 2021-22, and a third in 2025. Over the three iterations we have worked with 15 artists on a wide-ranging variety of successful projects.

We want to continue this way of supporting independent artists and freelancers within the sector and we are delighted to announce that we will run a fourth Make Space in 2026.

See our Make Space page here for insight into the artists involved in Make Space so far, and the variety of the work they created.

MAKE SPACE 2026 – NEW PROJECTS FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES

We are offering funding for two artists/collectives to work towards a piece that they would want to share with young audiences. You will not be expected to end the project with a finished idea, this is about having time to think about what you want to create, to spend time on an idea you’ve had for a while, or a new one, and to explore ideas for how and where you would want to present the work to a young audience.

Deadline for Applications: 11am, Monday 18 May 2026
