Kappa & The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk return in 2009 - 2010

Two solo performances were developed in 2007/08 for primary schools, performed by Andy Manley, under direction of Catherine Wheels' artistic director Gill Robertson, and written by Rob Evans. The project ran in partnership with six local authorities across Scotland and performances took place in school halls and classrooms. Aimed for Primary 6-7, this project first ran in Autumn 2007 and Spring 2008.
Kappa, the first production, reached over 1,000 children in 39 schools across Scotland. Production photos can be seen on the CREATE website (Dumfries & Galloway Council) www.createdumfriesandgalloway.com
The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk followed Kappa's success and was performed in schools to over 3,900 children in Spring 2008.
Kappa will be touring schools in Autumn 2009 and The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk in Spring 2010.

LEARN FUND - HANNAH & HANNA
Catherine Wheels has been given funding through the Scottish Arts Council's Learn Fund to develop the Second Stage Project, which will enable the company to engage with secondary schools across Scotland.
The project will include a new production of Hannah & Hanna, the award-winning play by John Retallack, in Autumn 2010

THE BOOK OF BEASTS
The Book of Beasts, a new show based on E Nesbit's book and devised by the company, toured venues across Scotland from March to June 2009.
The Book of Beasts was also at the Unicorn Theatre in London and was part of the Bank of Scotland Imaginate Children's Festival. For more information about Imaginate and the next Festival programme see www.imaginate.org.uk
SOMETHING ELSE
In partnership with local authorities, Catherine Wheels toured with A Town Called Elsewhere, a play for Primary 1 - 3 based on the award winning The Strange Man by the acclaimed Danish Company, Patrasket. It is a charming and humorous story which looks at issues such as being different, feeling different and fitting it.
This Arts in Education project offers pre & post-show workshops, Teachers Resource Pack and a CPD programme. The project ran in Autumn 2008.
THE LION OF KABUL
The Lion of Kabul was invited to be part of the Bank of Scotland Imaginate Children's Theatre Festival, Spring 2008. The Lion of Kabul, which premiered in 2006, tells the incredible true story of Marjan, the lion of Kabul. Marjan was gifted to Afghanistan in the 1960s and survived years of civil unrest, war and the Taliban regime. The production features live music and film, and is performed by Catherine Wheels' artistic director Gill Robertson. Click here to find out more about The Lion of Kabul
NEW TERRITORIES - MARTHA
Martha went to China in 2008 to be part of the Shanghai International Children's Festival, and in 2009 the show travelled further afield to the Singapore International Children's Festival and onto Tasmania for it's Australian premiere at the Ten Days on the Island festival.
RECENT VOYAGES - LIFEBOAT IN NEW ZEALAND & AUSTRALIA
Following last year's successful run at the New Victory Theatre on New York's Boardway, Lifeboat headed down under in February 2008. The company was invited to perform the award winning production at the New Zealand International Arts Festival in Wellington, and at Sydney Opera House in Australia.
This was the first time that a Scottish Children's Theatre Company had performed at this prestigious

RECENT AWARDS....
Marthawon Best Production at the Shanghai International Children's Festival 2008
Lifeboat was nominated for Best Visiting Production at the prestigous Manchester Evening News Awards 2007 and The Lion of Kabul was nomatinated for Best Children's Show and Best Design (Karen Tennent) in the Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland 2007.
CONGRATULATIONS!
More awards for Catherine Wheels! Craig Fleming, Catherine Wheels' production manager won the Stage Management Association award for Individual Achievement in stage management. The Stage Management Assocation award is a national award to recognise and celebrate the sterling work of the people behind the scenes.
