TOURING 2010 - 2011
HANNAH AND HANNA
13th September - 5th November 2010

Hannah is sixteen. She loves karaoke and her boyfriend Bullfrog. She hates her hometown of Margate and the Kosovan asylum seekers who have come to live there.

Hanna is also sixteen. She loves karaoke and Margate and is one of the asylum seekers.

Hannah and Hanna is one of the finest plays written for young audiences in the past ten years and is as relevant now as when it was first performed in 2001. The play is set when asylum seekers from Kosovo fled from their war torn country in the late 90s but the universality of the story means that the asylum seekers could be from any country in the world. It is a dark story which offers young people an opportunity to imagine and to reflect on how they would react in a similar situation and is also a tale of hope for a more understanding and tolerant society.

The classic tale, stripped bare.

Beauty:  You're just an animal
Beast:  And what are you?

Beauty is a good girl. She lives at home with her father. They look after each other. They are happy.  Then one day an act of love means that Beauty's world has to change forever…

Sent away from her home, Beauty confronts a new world.  A dark place, full of strange shadows, where things are not quite as they seem. In the midst of this new, strange place is the Beast.
